Postmortem

So she took the bud
out of her ear
and put it back
on the flower.

It was,
there is,
always

consilience.

  2. Oh Kass, I was just about to e-mail you as I hadn't seen a post from you.
I must admit I had to look the word up and I think Edward Wilson's explanation/book fits your post today.
    Nice to hear your voice.

    cheers, parsnip

  3. Interesting notion, consilience. However valuable it may be, it's brought some unity back into your blogging again. Wonderful to see you here.

  4. This is terrific, Kass. Great things arriving in small packages, and all that! Such a potent image and drawing on such multifarious roots. Sometimes only poetry can bring out the sense of exhilarated wonder at the heart of scientific endeavour and discovery.

  6. So glad you came back with a big thought in a small package -- depth of feeling potent as a haiku.

  10. Whoa -- lots of thoughts on a Sunday morning. I read through your link with close interest. E.O. Wilson is a maverick in some folks eyes yet one cannot deny he gives one much to deliberate on. I will read his new book -- barbara

  14. Consilience--what a great word and concept. Thank you for bringing it to a larger audience. It made me want to learn more (oh no!!). Your succinct writing adds so much, so ironically. xo

  15. Consilience, I has it. Thank you for a new concept or maybe a new word for and old concept. Either way it's good to hear your voice again.

  16. I love the word consilience: everything makes sense but only when you look at everything at the same time. The reason we get ourselves in such a state most of the time is that we only have a few bits of the puzzle.

  17. Lots to think about there, Kass.

Thinking of you through the holidays.

  19. There is resilience in consilience. Most interesting to read the link about this perspective. It does make a lot of sense, our motivations and perspectives breaching the disciplines.

  23. It is wonderful to see you back here, Kass. How much I've missed you, even though sometime I did not check long to see whether your light was on, now here it is and as ever in the blogosphere I came on your return by chance.

Consilience, the unity of all knowledge, as exemplified within the blog world.

  24. I can't make sense of the location of this post in time, Kass, the dates seem all wrong and it may be the return of the repressed. No matter, it's still good to be speaking to you however indirectly through the blogosphere. Maybe you're not back at all, just a revisiting ghost.
